TOPIC SUMMARY

Due to industrialization and the prosperousness of the global economy since the late 20th century, the increasing ability to travel and the growing number of tourists have invoked over-tourism, a phenomenon defined as "the impact of tourism on a destination, or parts thereof, that excessively influences perceived quality of life of citizens and/or quality of visitors experiences in a negative way" by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

Over-tourism has been receiving increasing attention as it could induce problems in tourist attractions around the world, causing irreversible damage to nature, culture, and the economy.

In this committee, delegates will discuss the severity of over-tourism in each region, deal with environmental, societal, and economic issues, and manage to strike a balance between tourism and the sustainable development of the country.
